Jaques de Molay was the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar.  Deeply in debt to the Templars, King Philip IV of France arrested Molay and many Templars in 1307 torturing them into false confessions.  Later Jaques de Molay retracted his confession and King Philip had him burned alive on an island in the river Seine in front of Notre Dame de Paris, March 1314.
